Kicking Career Goals with Pathways

Omnia’s after school employment pathway equipped Emma with the skills and confidence she needed for success.

Enabling youth with disabilities to achieve both their life and career goals, Job Centre Australia’s After School Employment Pathway proves the key link to building a diverse workforce.
Northern Beaches local Emma, engaged with local youth diversity NDIS provider and Disability Employer Partner, Job Centre Australia (JCAL) after finishing school with the clear goal of gaining the skills required to transition into employment.
Completing a range of in-centre and online pre-employment training, work experience and on the job training, Emma gained the confidence and transferrable skills needed to further progress and ultimately gain employment with local employer, Crash Claim.
Crash Claim owners Nick and Helen Karagiannis are firm believers in the benefits of an inclusive and diverse workforce, having employed several people with a disability through their partnership with JCAL. ‘Everyone has ability, no matter the disability. Employed as an Administration Assistant, Emma who has an Intellectual disability, epilepsy and musculo-skeletal disorder, checks and prepares invoices and toll notices, and is learning new skills each day. Supported in the workplace by JCAL to refresh her touch typing and basic computer skills, working in an office environment is a dream for Emma. Emma’s parents commented, “This job has brought about a huge change in Emma’s life. We have never seen Emma so happy and motivated. She is exercising, eating and sleeping well and participating in a lot of outdoor activities. We cannot thank Nick, Emily and the Crash Claim team enough for giving Emma this opportunity. This job is a life changer for Emma.”
Through the delivery of participant driven and personally tailored capacity building supports, JCAL’s youth NDIS services are designed to develop, motivate and inspire each individual to realise their social, independence and employment goals. Operating since 1990, Job Centre Australia is a nationally accredited specialist Disability Employment Partner and youth NDIS provider. JCAL partner with employers to recruit valuable team members into their workforce, recognising the significant value of individual and cultural diversity. By creating meaningful employment for people with disability, JCAL elevate awareness, inclusion and the contribution of all people, to local communities and economies.
