When Bob first walked through the doors at Omnia Inclusive back in February 2022, he was still at school and only came in for one morning a week. But even in those few hours, it was obvious – Bob had something special. He brought this spark with him: a mix of energy, curiosity, and a genuine eagerness to give everything a go.
Over the years, Bob thrived across all parts of our Youth NIDS employment, social and independence programs. He was always willing to try new things, whether it was writing his first resume, learning customer service in our in-house Mini Woolies Omnia site or rolling up his sleeves in the kitchen for one of our cooking sessions. Bob dived headfirst into every opportunity. Nothing seemed too big, too new, or too hard — he just gave it a go, and it paid off.
– Bob’s NDIS Coordinator
Pretty quickly, customer service stood out as one of Bob’s natural talents. In our in-house Mini Woolies Omnia site, he had this way of making people feel instantly welcome.
But it was in kitchen where Bob truly lit up. Cooking went from being a weekly workshop to a real passion. He experimented with new recipes, sharpened his independence, and started to see hospitality as more than just a skill – it was something he could build a future around.
Bob had set himself a goal: to try different types of work until he discovered what he really loved. With the support of our NDIS team, he explored industries ranging from retail to fitness to education through work expriencement placements. He gave his all at places like Bunnings, Planet Fitness, Little Lunch Café, and Henschke Catholic Primary School. And the feedback? Always glowing. In fact, the team at Omnia Inclusive started calling it “The Bob Effect” – wherever Bob goes, people remember him.
During his workplacplacement at Moorish Café, Bob quickly became a customer favourite. Regulars would ask, “When’s Bob in next?” They didn’t just want a coffee — they wanted a Bob coffee.
Bob had discovered what he truly excelled in — connecting with people and bringing positivity to every workplace. Driven and ready to take the next step toward paid employment, he transferred to our Disability Employment Services (DES) program for extra support in reaching his goals.
Working closely with Moorish Café, our Disability Employment Services team helped create an inclusive workplace and supported Bob through interviews, training, and onboarding. This support, combined with Bob’s enthusiasm and dedication, soon led to a job offer — one of his biggest milestones yet: stepping into paid employment.
He also landed work at Bullitt Transmissions, where he not only learned the ropes but also smashed another personal goal: mastering public transport. Thanks to our travel training sessions, Bob now travels independently – a huge step toward building his confidence and freedom.
And Bob himself sums it up best:
Our team still check in regularly, providing on-the-job support and encouragement for both Bob and his employer. Bob’s settling in, growing in confidence, and proving what’s possible when the right support is in place. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see where his hard work and determination take him next.
